Big things are underway this August, including the much-anticipated return of the Premier League. Playbook has compiled a few of our favourite bars to watch the 20 teams battle it out on the big screen.

Barasti Beach

Our first recommendation is a little different to your average sports bar – Barasti Beach is infamous for its iconic beach bar, vast pool and ocean hammocks. A favourite with locals and tourists alike, Barasti is open daily from 9am with the summer garden open from 4pm serving pints, spirits and house wines starting from AED29. Barasti also has a huge, air-conditioned, summer tent decorated with plants and flowers, perfect for watching the football in a cool, breezy spot with a cold pint or just hanging out with friends and settling in for the day.

Garden On 8

For a classic beer garden that’s laidback and social, enjoy the start of the Premier League season this summer at Garden on 8, an astroturfed terrace with long social tables and excellent bar snacks like burgers and wings. Not just for football, Garden on 8 has some huge summer plans, with the Garden happy hour every day from 4pm to 8pm, a Garden Quiz every Wednesday from 8pm, and a massive 19 weeks of Summer Brunch every Saturday 2pm-5pm. Very chilled and very fun- Garden on 8 is an easy spot to spend the summer.

Phileas Fogg

Bring in the summer of sport at Phileas Fogg, located at Montgomery Golf Club Academy, with classic leather and wood interiors, vintage décor and a vibrant drinks and food menu that represents different locations around the world. Phileas Fogg also has a huge outdoor seating area that has welcomed comedians for its Word of Mouth Comedy club, as well as hosting a quiz on Tuesday, and of course, the football on Saturdays. Great food and a lively atmosphere, Phileas Fogg is an easy destination to kick off the Premier League.

Nelson’s

For a traditional British pub vibe, with excellent pints and a huge high-definition video wall broadcasting live sport from around the world, Nelson’s at Media Rotana Hotel is a prime spot to hang out with friends and watch some football. Nelson’s has a broad range of beers on tap, and a solid gastropub menu that hits the spot after a few pints. Don’t miss their daily happy hour which runs from 12pm - 8pm and 12.30am - 1.30am.

Nezesaussi Grill

Nezesaussi Grill, is the ultimate sports hub at Manzil Downtown by Vida. The walls are adorned with sports memorabilia from south of the equator, with classic sports bar stylings and large screens broadcasting international sports dotted around the space. The menu is the very best of Aussie barbequing, with a huge selection of meats and gastropub classics like burgers, nachos, and, of course, a very strong drinks menu. Nezesaussi Grill will be showing Premier League matches all summer, as well as hosting their quiz night every Tuesday for AED149 per person, including 1 main and 3 drinks alongside quiz entry.

Bridgewater Tavern

Bridgewater Tavern is a relaxed sports bar right in the heart of Business Bay, located inside JW Marriot Marquis. This spot is a go-to venue for watching live sports, with huge screens and a classic menu of sports bar favourites and a crowd-pleasing beer selection on draught. Bridgewater Tavern is a great choice to watch the Prem with some mates for a casual, low-key evening. Make the most of their daily happy hour from 4pm - 7pm with draught beer starting from only AED25.

The Legends Restaurant & Cafe

Our final recommendation to kick off the football season this weekend is The Legends Restaurant Café, a venue serving a huge variety of healthy breakfasts, lunches and dinners, with a great drinks menu and all the sports channels you could need. The interior is classic and laid back but still elegant, with leather sofas and exposed brick walls. Happy Hour at The Legends runs daily from 1pm - 8pm with beverages starting from AED25. The Legends also lays claim to an amazing view overlooking the Palm Jumeirah, it works as an ideal breakfast spot and a cozy place to watch some football – a rare place that can do both!
